CHRONIC PAIN THERAPY
Pain is a complex and all-encompassing feeling. You might feel that you get stuck in a constant loop of either over or under-doing it and “paying” for it later. This loop can start to include thoughts about what the future will look like, feeling down about yourself, or even losing who you thought you were. We will work together to carve a new path.
Unfortunately, psychotherapy cannot take away your chronic pain. However, we can work toward finding a balance with empirically supported strategies to live a life you want. Two evidence based treatments for chronic pain include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP)
-Gold standard treatment for chronic pain, has been in use for decades
-Combination of behavioral and cognitive skills
-Focus on strategies to help increase activities with less or similar pain
-Manage mood and impact on mental health
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Chronic Pain (ACT)
-Newer treatment with good evidence base
-Focus on values aligned with behaviors
-Exploring what to accept and what we can change
Some chronic pain diagnoses you might be managing could include fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, migraines, arthritis, Ehlers Danlos syndrome
